With the concept of themes in art, you will begin with nature, which forms the foundation of our world and all that we as a species do.

The theme of nature includes the natural world: plants, animals, planets, weather; everything that is nature. While the human species is certainly a part of nature, it is separated into its own category, “the Body,” which is the second theme you will explore. This is done because quite often what humans do, both individually and collectively, is a direct response to the natural world around them. 

With this first reflection, you will read Chapter 13, “Nature, Knowledge and Technology,” from your text and watch video # 10, “The Natural World,” from “Art Through Time, A Global View.”
